Foundation Courses

Our Atlanta skin care school foundation courses introduce you to the field of esthetics. They prepare you to perform basic facials, waxing, makeup, lash and brow tinting, and provide you with the foundation necessary for advanced study.

Orientation

An introduction to both the Atlanta Institute of Aesthetics and the professional esthetics industry. Program policies, guidelines and procedures are reviewed.

Introductory Classes

Introduction to Esthetics Education. Classes in Touch, Boundaries and Ethics are covered and related to the esthetics industry.

Infection Control

Mandatory infection control and hygiene procedures implemented for the safety of both aesthetician and client. Students receive a comprehensive and medically accurate view of working with chronically ill individuals, including those with AIDS.

Human Sciences / Anatomy and Physiology

Introduces general terminology and covers cells, tissues, integumentary, skeletal, nervous, endocrine, reproductive, circulator, lymphatic, digestive, respiratory and excretory systems

Basic Facial

Students master all the basic skills and techniques necessary to perform comprehensive facial treatments.

Skin Care

Covers skin Physiology & Histology, identification of each skin type and related conditions. Students learn how to identify treatment objectives and recommend appropriate home care regimes for each skin type

Diseases & Disorders

Diseases & Disorders teaches the esthetician to distinguish primary and secondary skin lesions and common terminology used to describe a variety of skin pathologies.

Introduction to Machines

Learn to incorporate Galvanic Current, High Frequency, Vaporizer, Brush, Vacuum & Spray Machines into your treatments. Proper operational maintenance protocols prepare you to work with the most popular equipment utilized in the rapidly expanding spa industry.

Hair Removal

Students are introduced to trichology and learn the safe, sanitary and effective methods of removing unwanted hair from various areas of the body and face.

Make up

Color theory, identification of face shapes and professional make up techniques are introduced and practiced.

Lash & Brow Tint

Students will learn the application of harmless semi-permanent color agents that deepen the color of the brows and lashes.

Spa Therapies

The student is introduced to the body treatments and practices used to perform cellulite treatments, body polishes, body wraps and back facials.

Reflexology

Introduces a theory that states, "There are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body." Learn a unique method of using the thumb and fingers on these reflex areas in order to relieve stress and tension.

Aromatherapy

Study how essential oils and herbs from plants are used to enhance skin care treatments. Learn to make custom blends for various skin types.

State Board Preparation

Prepares students to sit for the Georgia state board exam. Covers setup and supplies for the practical portion of the exam and study topics for the written portion of the exam. Students role-play both parts of the exam with instructors playing the part of state examiner.
